A brief selection guide for MOS tubes

1. Select by polarity

  • Low-side switch (ground terminal control): choose N-channel MOSFET
  • High-end switch (power supply side control): Commonly used P-channel MOSFET, or use a drive circuit to match N-channel

2. Select by voltage

  • Vds≥1.3~2 times of the input voltage (leave a margin)
  • For example: 12V circuit → choose ≥30V MOS tube

3. Select by current

  • Id≥2 times the load current (leave a margin)

4. Select according to power consumption & on-resistance

  • High current applications: Try to choose models with low Rds(on)
  • High-frequency switching (DC-DC, drive): Pay attention to Qg (gate charge) to avoid excessive switching losses

5. Select by package

  • Small current situations: SOT-23, SOT-223
  • Medium and large current: TO-220, DPAK, DFN8
