This successful test with Softbank further consolidates the leadership of the joint development department in the NB-IoT market. Softbank is Japan's leading innovation enterprise in communication services, and it can also be verified by Softbank NB-IoT technology, which also reflects the effort of the joint development department to promote the project.
Since the first version of the NB-IoT agreement was frozen in June 2016, NB-IoT has become a new blue ocean for global operators to expand. According to the relevant data, 45 operators have deployed NB-IoT commercial network, and the number of activated stations has exceeded 1 million. By the end of this year, the number of NB-IoT commercial networks is expected to reach 100, covering 45% of the world and 65% of the population.
As the world's leading chip design company, MediaTek has been actively promoting the landing of NB-IoT technology and playing a foundation role. Up to now, MediaTek has launched two NB-IoT chips supporting R14 standard, namely single mode MT2625 and dual mode MT2621.
Among them, MT2625 is the 16mm x 18mm NB-IoT universal module which was launched by China Mobile in June. It is designed to meet the needs of streamlined and miniaturized IOT devices. These devices are required to run in low power, and the technology of the United States Department allows the Internet of things to use only batteries. Can continue for several years, and then expand the application layout of the Internet of things.
It is worth mentioning that, after testing, MT2625 has proved to be able to operate on a soft silver network, and can be prepared for the main wireless network in Japan for the low power networking devices that will carry these chipsets in the future.
On the whole, the development of NB-IoT has three stages, namely, technology accumulation, product business and market eruption, in general. At present, NB-IoT has entered the second stage, that is, the commercial stage of terminal products, and will soon enter the third stage of take-off.
